Teaching and training programs

Srikiran Institute of Ophthalmology has been providing training to Ophthalmologists and Ophthalmic Assistants since last 23 years. So far about 363 Ophthalmic Assistants and 66 Ophthalmologists were trained. Our training programs have been enhanced to meet the current demand and we are offering the following training programs. Those who are interested to know about the availability of the training programs and further details can be obtained either by e-mail or by telephone.

Srikiran Institute of Ophthalmology has received accreditation by National Board of Examinations (NBE) to train postgraduates in ophthalmology for D.N.B degree. There are two seats every year for D.N.B. program. Interested candidates can get more information from,www.natboard.edu.in

The following programs are offered at Srikiran Institute of Ophthalmology:

1. SHORT-TERM PHACO TRAINING PROGRAMME

We are happy to announce our new ADVANCED SHORT-TERM PHACO TRAINING PROGRAMME starting 1st April, 2016 comprising of theory/presentations on various aspects of cataract surgery along with practical hands-on training in Phaco. Candidates will get a chance to interact with senior cataract consultants and discuss difficult cases and their management.

HIGHLIGHTS:

1. Duration of the training is 1 month (4weeks) starting from 1st of every month.

2. A minimum of 5 SICS and 15-20 Phacos will be monitored / taught during the course. Additional cases will be arranged as per the surgical evaluation of the candidate.

3. Wet lab facility is available.

4. All Surgeries will be performed in a premium operation theatre with a variety of high end Phaco machines ( Peristaltic and Venturi Based Systems).

5. A time table will be provided to the trainee about his schedule. Phaco trainees will be spending the mornings observing cases and training sessions in the afternoon.

6. Trainees are requested to bring along their aprons.

7. A Certificate will be given at the end of the Course.

ELIGIBILITY:

1. Any Ophthalmologist, with MS/DNB/DOMS degree or equivalent is eligible for the course.

2. Phaco candidate must be competent in SICS surgery before performing Phaco.

3. Experience in Capsulorhexis (continuous curvilinear capsulorhexis) is a mandatory to start with Phaco training.

ACCOMODATION:

Accommodation will be arranged on prior intimation for charge as per availability. Accommodation arrangements have to be done at the time of booking your course slot.

HOW TO APPLY:

1. CV ( should include the number of cases (SICS/Phaco) performed till date)

2. Registration number (MCI/State).

3. Your preferred dates of training (starts from 1st of each month).

4. Scanned degree/diploma/equivalent certificate.

2. Comprehensive Ophthalmology followed by training in Phaco.

This program is designed to develop the skills of the recently completed postgraduates in ophthalmology in clinical knowledge in comprehensive ophthalmology, Small Incision cataract surgery, and rotation in various specialties of ophthalmology. After the initial training for 15 months Phaco training will be also provided to the candidates if they are interested.

Qualifications - MS /DNB/DO should be completed at the time of application

Duration - 18 months

Frequency - Whenever vacancies available

3. Short term medical retina training programme

The program is oriented to train candidates in diagnosis, investigations and treatment of common retinal disorders. The candidates will be trained hands-on in slit-lamp biomicroscopy, indirect ophthalmoscopy, slit lamp laser delivery and B-scan. They will be trained in interpretation of fundus fluorescein angiography, optical coherence tomography. Observation of Intravitreal injections, management of endophthalmitis and retinal surgeries.

Qualifications - MS /DNB/DO should be completed at the time of application

Duration - 6 weeks

Frequency - Starts on 1st of every month

4. Long term medical retina and anterior segment fellowship

The program is oriented to train candidates in diagnosis, investigations and treatment of retinal disorders and in cataract surgery. The candidates will be trained hands-on in slit-lamp biomicroscopy, indirect ophthalmoscopy, slit lamp and indirect laser delivery, B-scan, fundus fluorescein angiography, optical coherence tomography, Intravitreal injections, management of endophthalmitis. They will be trained in small incision cataract surgery and various procedures like cryopexy, YAG laser etc.

Qualifications - MS /DNB/DO should be completed at the time of application

Duration - 18 months

Frequency - Whenever vacancies available
